Playhouse 38 to stage ‘Into the Woods, Jr.’

Playhouse 38’s summer teen production of “Into the Woods, Jr.,” will run for one weekend only. The musical, which is based on the stories of the Brothers Grimm, will run from Friday, July 25, through Sunday, July 27.

The musical comedy twists the lives of familiar characters into a brand new story. “Into the Woods” opened on Broadway in 1987 to earn three Tony Awards and four Drama Desk Awards, including Most Outstanding Musical, state a news release.

“Into the Woods” features music and lyrics by eight-time Tony Award-winning composer Stephen Sondheim and book by James Lapine.

Director Kim Maslo said: “Stephen Sondheim is known for his tongue-twisting lyrics and extremely difficult music. I was blessed with a cast of remarkably talented actors,  who have not only risen to the challenge, but have surpassed all of my expectations.”

The cast includes Aidan Burns, Maddy Donatelli, Aly Fogel, Beth Kahan, Will Johnson, Parker Livingston, Abbey Loria, Carrie Loria, Lilly Hirt Nowak, and Megan Styrna of Geneva; Boston Kuchar, Michael Long and Emily Whaley of Schaumburg; Ellie Feldsien of South Elgin; Emily Johnson of St. Charles; and Jimmy Knapp of Warrenville.

Performances will take place at 7 p.m. Friday, 1 and 7 p.m. Saturday, and 3 p.m. Sunday at Playhouse 38, 524 W. State St. (on the lower level), Geneva.

Tickets cost $10 and are available for purchase at Sunset Community Center, 710 Western Ave., Geneva.
