In Focus: Quality time

Jake and Shayli Hannemann, who have been married since September 2013, stayed at the St. Charles home of Eric and Rachel Kingston during Jake's time as a Kane County Cougars player.

A couple of weeks ago, after much maneuvering of our schedules, I had the chance to visit with then Kane County Cougars outfielder Jake Hannemann and his wife, Shayli, at their host family’s home in St. Charles.

The Kingston family could not have been more welcoming, and Jake and Shayli were so fun and happy to be around. In my short time with them – during which I had a bite or two of the key lime pie they offered me, as well as a sip of a Hawaiian punch milk shake they made – I felt like a part of their family.

I can see why Jake and Shayli – one of two married couples that recently had been on the Kane County Cougars team – felt so at home with Rachel and Eric Kingston and their daughters.

Just a few hours after I left that evening, Jake got the call that he had been promoted to the Daytona Cubs, the advanced A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs. Congratulations to Jake and Shayli. I’m sure the Kingstons miss you like crazy.
