NORTH AURORA – The North Aurora Police Department will conduct roadside safety checks at various locations within the village of North Aurora beginning this weekend and ending the weekend of Sept. 27.

Officers working this detail will be watchful for drivers who are operating vehicles in an unsafe manner, driving with a suspended or revoked driver’s license, transporting open alcoholic beverages or driving under the influence, according to a new release from the North Aurora Police Department.

Alcohol and drug impairment is a significant factor in nearly 40 percent of all fatal motor vehicle crashes in Illinois, according to North Aurora police.

The project is funded through a grant by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
