AURORA – The kickoff event for the American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Kane County takes place Thursday in Aurora.
It takes place from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Waterford Place Cancer Resource Center, 1310 Waterford Drive, Aurora. At the event, guests can register as a team, a participant or a survivor for the Relay For Life event that takes place June 3 at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark, Geneva, according to a news release.
"This is our community's opportunity to help save lives from cancer by taking our message to more people and raising more dollars to fund the fight," Kathy Neal, the Relay For Life community manager, stated in the release. "Together, our efforts can make a big difference."
Thursday's program will highlight how the community has benefited from funds raised, such as a wig boutique. Visitors can tour the facility.
At the Relay For Life event in Geneva, participants will gather and take turns walking or running around a track or a path. The Geneva event starts at 6 p.m. June 3 and ends at 2 a.m. June 4. Teams participate in fundraising in the months leading up to the event. Last year, the Relay For Life of Kane County raised more than $91,000, the release stated.
