Before The Diploma: The anticipation of things to come

I have always thought April is such a boring month. It is the month of odd weather patterns and nonexistent events. However, it is the month I was born in, and – by the way – I am accepting gifts. I like trail mix, headbands and cute stuffed animals. Really, April is a dull period of the year. Spring is here, yet everyone is just waiting for the warm months to come, waiting for school to end and waiting to go on a summer vacation.

I am just waiting for the day when my friends can return home from college and I can finally wear my denim capris that I bought a month ago. I just want to paint my toenails a bright red and show them off as I wear sandals. I am going to a concert the first week of May. I am guilty of waiting. April is the month of waiting for something more thrilling to pop up in our lives.

Some people like the month of April. Sure, the idea of beautiful butterflies and flowers popping up all around sounds delightful, but look around. I have not seen one monarch butterfly in my backyard nor have I strolled by any happy, dancing tulips. This type of cold weather one day and warm weather another day is irritating. It is so difficult to pick out an outfit that is actually appropriate for the day because I never know if I should really trust the weathermen and weatherwomen out there.

On the bright side of things, my first year of college is coming to an end. In the past week I have written three essays, so pardon me if my writing is not up to par or a bit bland. I feel as if my eyes have been glued to my laptop screen for a consecutive week. I have used the words “furthermore,” “moreover,” “also” and “additionally” so much in my papers recently that is kills me to repeat them now. Sadly, I still have about five papers to write in less than a month (most of them are around five to 10 pages; I should really start those essays). Also, I am trying my best to maintain a steady grade in my math class, fingers crossed. While I say all of this, I keep losing track of time. What day is it again?

To completely change gears now, I must mention that the Blackhawks have made it to the playoffs. My new jersey can be put to use! By the time this goes up, all the Hawks fans will either be in a state of bliss, pure insanity or they may just be crying. Stay tuned. Baseball has also started, so go Cubs go?

Ultimately, my mind is racing in several different directions, much like this column. On that note, I hope you all enjoy the rest of your April. Prove to me that these 30 days can actually be exciting. In the meantime, I will be dreaming of stepping outside with just a short sleeve shirt, shorts and no jacket.
