ST. CHARLES – If anyone was prepared for motherhood, Tina Morton thought it would be her.
But despite her background in early childhood education and reading books on the subject, the St. Charles resident said she felt overwhelmed and unprepared with her firstborn, now 4 years old.
Now a mother of three, Morton seeks to guide expecting moms and dads through the early steps of parenthood.
She is the founder of Cloud Nine Baby Planning, a comprehensive maternity and baby consulting company. She launched the business this year, soon after her youngest was born because she felt a "huge pull" to help new parents.
"I wanted to be a guidance for those moms-to-be," Morton said, adding she aims to "completely and wholly" prepare parents for their new baby.
Her services address birth plans, hospital prep and natural maternity living. Offerings also include helping parents create a baby registry, showing parents how to use various baby gear, stocking and setting up the nursery, and personal shopping.
For example, Morton said, if a woman doesn't have time to shop for nursing bras, she will buy several varieties, bring them to the woman's house and return the unwanted undergarments.
She also provides additional services – such as assistance with home maintenance, groceries and meals – for women put on bed rest during pregnancy.
Through its maternity concierge services, Cloud Nine Baby Planning can connect parents with nanny agencies, doulas, birth educators, photographers and – among other service providers – child safety professionals.
"I've done the research for them," Morton said.
