St. Charles East High School graduate Emma Johnson, a biochemistry major in the Colgate University Class of 2017, has earned the spring dean’s award. In addition, Batavia High School graduate Emily Daniel, an English major in the Colgate University Class of 2018, earned the spring dean’s award. The dean’s award for academic excellence is awarded to students with a 3.30 or higher term average. Colgate is located in Hamilton, N.Y.
Miami (Ohio) University
Geneva resident Lindsey Baughman, a major in information systems at Miami University, spent the 2016 spring semester abroad in Luxemburg as part of a study-abroad group. According to a news release, with about 38 percent of Miami undergraduate students studying abroad for credit by the time they graduate, Miami is ranked second among public doctoral institutions nationwide for students studying abroad.
Batavia resident Oliver Bohac has graduated from a weeklong program at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center promoting science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Bohac was part of the Space Academy program, which is specifically designed for trainees who have an interest in space exploration.
University of Nebraska-Lincoln
Batavia resident Parker Thomas Thomassen, a junior and major in business administration at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, will be studying abroad through the Nebraska at Oxford program. In addition, South Elgin resident Katlyn Nicole LaCroix, a junior and an actuarial science major at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, will be studying abroad through the Nebraska at Oxford program. The study-abroad program provides four weeks of courses at the University of Oxford in England.
