2 dead, 1 injured in South Elgin crash

SOUTH ELGIN – Two males were pronounced dead at the scene after a crash Nov. 13 on Route 31 and Scott Avenue in South Elgin, police announced in a news release.

The single-vehicle crash occurred about 5:45 a.m. Preliminary investigation revealed the car veered off the road – due to a high rate of speed – and struck a tree, causing severe damage to the car and causing all three passengers to be ejected, the release stated.

Rohit A. Singh, 31, of the 300 block of W. Hawthorne Circle, Mount Prospect, and Mario Ramirez-Hernandez, 27, of the 2100 block of S. Goebbert Road, Arlington Heights, were pronounced dead at the scene. A third male victim was transported to Presence St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin, the release stated.

Sgt. Mike Doty said the transported victim appeared to have non life-threatening injuries.

Autopsies showed blunt-force trauma was the primary cause of death for the first two victims. Toxicology results are still pending, the release stated.

The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information should call 847-741-2151.
