Restaurant Madness Week in Batavia to whet appetites

BATAVIA – A record number of businesses will take part in Batavia Restaurant Madness Week from March 20 to 24, this year covering a broader swath of the city.

The event was created five years ago by the Batavia Chamber of Commerce, Batavia MainStreet and the economic development arm of the city, said Holly Deitchman, the Chamber’s president and CEO.

“It’s all about trying to spread the love to our business community,” she said. “We hope that residents take this opportunity to … try something they haven’t tried before.”

Organizers made a concerted effort to increase the participation of eateries along Randall Road, which boosted the total to 30.

Deitchman said the event is timed for the week before spring break, with a thought to people starting their holiday celebration early, and so those who are traveling won’t have to stock their fridge.

“People get excited for it,” she said of the promotion, which offers 20 percent off a pre-tax bill of $20 or more upon showing a copy of the flier coupon.

The details appear on the flier, and only one coupon can be used per table for dine-in only at the majority of the locations. A gratuity is applied to the pre-discount bill, and tax, alcohol and tip are not applicable. Individual participating restaurants may have other requirements.

Taking part will be Aliano’s Express/Catering, Aliano’s Ristorante, Apple Villa Pancake House, Arby’s Roast Beef, Bar Evolution, Batavia Creamery, Bulldog’s Red Hots, Chapters Coffee House, Chicago Pizza, Chick-fil-A Batavia, Chili’s, Crosstown Pub, East China Inn, Enticing Cuisine, Funway, Gaetano’s Batavia, Gammon Coach House, Limestone Coffee & Tea, Lumes, Pal Joey’s, Panera Bread, River’s Edge Bar & Grill, Rosati’s Pizza, Salsa Verde, Swordfish, Taco Urbano, TGI Friday’s, The Elms, Tribella Grill, and Tusk Thai Cuisine.

To receive the discount, one should take a flier coupon to each restaurant visited.

“We want you to use it early and use it often,” said Deitchman, noting it is on the Chamber’s home page and accessible on mobile devices. “If you think you forgot it at home, pull it up on your phone [from] our home page.”

In announcing the event, Chris Aiston, Batavia’s economic development consultant, praised the collaborative project and “the city’s fabulous restaurateurs.”

This year’s lineup ranges from fast food to major chains to snacks to fine dining, said Jamie Saam, executive director of Batavia MainStreet.

“There’s such a great mix of everything,” she said. “People can literally pick up something on their way home from work to feed their family fast or go out to Gaetano’s to enjoy a very nice meal.”
