Why have you decided to run for election in the Kaneland School Board race?

This is my way of giving back to the community and keeping myself involved.

What project most needs to be completed in Kaneland School District 302?  And how would you work to ensure the project is actually finished and done well?

We have so many projects and only a certain amount of funds, where the administration evaluates the most urgent needs and bring to the school board members with a plan on how to best spend from the funds available. The projects selected are appropriately scheduled and seen through completion. The administration reports the status of projects until completed.

What experience and/or strengths would you bring to the board if elected/re-elected?

I bring my knowledge from serving on the school board for the past three-plus years, along with past district and community involved experiences over my last 23-plus years living in our Kaneland’s 302 School District.

Are you generally in favor of increasing school spending, lowering school spending, or maintaining school spending – keeping in mind that such decisions can affect local homeowners and the taxes that they pay?  Please explain your answer.

I’m in favor of keeping our expenditures in check verses our incoming funds. This while keeping our students and community in mind. There are changes mandated by the state and federal levels, verses changes that our local administration proposes that need to be evaluated on the long-range benefits towards the big picture. Regardless of the idea, all changes should have progress measurable goals and evaluated along the way.

What types of new technologies (computers, other devices/software) or styles of learning (such as blended learning) should the district focus on and implement in coming years?

To the best of our reality and affordability, I believe we should provide our students with the state-of- the-art technology that keeps up with our ever changing real world. We should move to look into partnerships with technology companies that will benefit our district as we prepare our students for the real world.

What differentiates you from the other candidates running for this seat?

The past three-plus years of services, providing me with the knowledge of working with all those involved in the education of our children. And most importantly, the understanding on how the system works.

Outside of politics, what are some of your other interests?

I don’t view this position as political.

I enjoy the privilege of watching, teaching and mentoring our children as they grow up.

I am a general sports fan and always looking for a competitive yet good clean game.

Living in an unincorporated area allows for my admiration of star gazing, which I enjoyed back on the farm while growing up.

Why should people vote for you in this race?

My experience and the willingness to hold all individuals responsible and accountable for doing right for our children, community and school district.
