ELBURN – Today’s world is one in which many couples divorce and then go on to remarry or form other living-together relationships.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 1,300 new step-families are formed each day; 50 percent of U.S. families are remarried or recoupled; and one out of every two marriages ends in divorce, although 75 percent remarry.
These step-families will have an opportunity to learn how to enjoy healthy marriages during the "Blended and Blessed" one-day live event and free live stream.
Lord of Life Church, 40W605 Route 38, Elburn, is hosting the live simulcast from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 29. Doors will open at 7:30 a.m., and a free lunch will be provided.
The presentation is geared toward all step-familes, single parents and dating couples that have kids, as well as those who simply care about the many blended families in America today.
“I guess I spearheaded the live stream,” said Carlos Baez, a volunteer at Lord of Life Church. “I brought it up to the pastor, and we have done some marriage counseling like this, but never this one. I’m a blended family and nowadays this is very pertinent since one in three weddings are blended.”
It’s being hosted by FamilyLife, which has been committed to helping people with marriage and family relationships since 1976.
The five keys that are crucial to healthy step-family marriages will be discussed by some of today’s most trusted and respected experts, leaving attendees challenged, inspired and encouraged.
Those keys include “When God Redeems Your Story,” “A Dynamic Marriage,” “Compassionate Parenting,” “Get a New You” and “Dedicated to the Journey.”
“All of the speakers are spectacular,” Baez said. “Ron Deal is just an amazing one. I believe he’s a psychologist and one of the main speakers. I’ve heard him before, and what he says is pretty unforgettable.”
Baez is hopeful that plenty of families take advantage of the opportunity.
“I’d absolutely recommend it for those who just got married, are thinking about getting married or have been married for a long time,” he said. “It’s a very uplifting presentation, and you’ll walk away with stuff that will help any marriage, even if you’ve been married 20 or 30 years and a need a little refreshing. These speakers use their personal lives and wonderful anecdotes that will apply to any marriage.”
In addition to a complimentary lunch, there will be some light snacks for breakfast, as well as throughout the day. While everything is free, attendees should register online beforehand – and can do so up until April 28 – at www.lolchurch.net/ministries/marriage.
