To the editor:
Donald Trump’s mean-spirited, bigoted attitude toward those who find themselves in need of shelter is appalling.
Unfortunately, Trump’s current actions are not unusual. Mexicans were deported by the hundreds of thousands during the 1930s. During World War II, we shamefully put Japanese in camps. We turned away Jews fleeing Nazi Germany, and – sadly – after the war, we refused to allow many of those who survived the death camps entry into the U.S. Is this really the kind of country we want?
Now, he continues the assault on refugees. During a time when we could demonstrate a bit of human compassion and love, we shamefully turn them away.
Politicians love to create diatribes about “family values,” but when it’s time to act, well, they fall short.
Shame on them and shame on us for putting up with this nonsensical assault on human decency.
