St. Charles Park District: Fun flits through the air at Hickory Knolls’ daddy-daughter Butterfly Ball

“Butterflies and little girls are/almost exactly the same/The only things that differ are/the letters in their names.” – poet Yuri Duraan

Is your little girl almost exactly like a butterfly? Does she fly through life with wings on her back?

If so, then the perfect time to celebrate this gentle spirit is at the St. Charles Park District’s second annual Butterfly Ball held from 6 to 8 p.m. June 23 at Hickory Knolls Discovery Center in St. Charles.

It’s a night of dancing and games, pizza and fun. And coming just a few days after Father’s Day, it’s yet another opportunity for fathers and daughters to bond in a daddy-daughter dance night like no other.

DJ-spun hits will make the evening fly, and butterfly-themed arts and crafts will provide a take-home memento of a wonder-filled night. Set against the magical backdrop of Hickory Knolls’ woodlands and wildflowers, the Butterfly Ball might just entice some real-life butterflies to join in the fun.

Little girls can channel their true butterfly spirits by wearing their finest dresses and donning their favorite fairy wings. (Dads can forego the wings for their usual casual attire.)

The Butterfly Ball is open to children age 2 and older. One parent may accompany multiple children from the same household. Advance registration is required, and the fee is $15 for residents; $23 for non-residents. For more information, contact Laura McCoy, nature programs supervisor for the park district, 630-513-4393.
