As my family became more and more aware of my dad’s progressive memory loss several years ago, we knew that he was at his best doing what he loved most. Going for walks, sitting outside, golfing, bowling and being near any body of water. His disease seemed to halt during these activities, though sometimes for just a short while.

So when visiting Arden Courts of Geneva as residents with memory loss and staff members worked on the facility’s beautiful gardens, I could see the familiarity in the residents’ eyes. It seemed that getting their hands in the dirt and being in the sunshine brought them back to their old lives, just for a moment.
