ST. CHARLES – The St. Charles School District 303 Board on June 12 recognized Superintendent Don Schlomann, who is retiring after 10 years with the district.

Board President Kathy Hewell thanked Schlomann for the “prodigious improvements” in the district under his leadership. She noted that student achievement rose during his tenure, and the last district survey of students, teachers and parents in 2016 showed the highest-ever satisfaction level.

“District 303 has become an elite, high-achieving, destination school district,” Hewell said.

Schlomann thanked the board and the district staff for their efforts, too.

“They’ve always put the children of this community first,” Schlomann said.

The board in April selected Jason Pearson to replace Schlomann as superintendent.

Pearson has been District 303’s area assistant superintendent for the middle and high schools for the past six years.

“No one understands better what needs to be done going forward than Dr. Pearson,” Schlomann said.

Schlomann received the same annual salary of $225,000 since 2007, having never sought a raise.

Several school board members, past and present, have initiated a scholarship fund in recognition of Schlomann.

The $20,000 scholarship fund will be awarded annually to District 303 graduates. So far, donations toward the scholarship fund total $2,430.
