SUGAR GROVE – Dunkin’ Donuts of Sugar Grove, located directly south and across of Jimmy John’s, opened on June 20.
Many community members visit the new Dunkin’ Donuts on a daily basis since the store opened. Manager Maria Sadel commented on the amount of families visiting the store in its first week.
“We have a pretty big sitting area in our store,” Sadel said. “We have had families coming in the afternoon and staying for hours since it’s the summer.”
After a couple years of trying to bring Dunkin’ Donuts to Sugar Grove, the community’s response has been fantastic in the first week since the store opening, according to owner Raj Patel.
Patel explained that he tried to have the store located across the street next to Jewel-Osco, but that didn't work out in 2015. Patel looked for a site and found the location across from Jimmy John’s on Route 47. From September 2016 through October 2016 construction started across the street from Jewel and the process of building Patel’s new store began. Originally, Patel hoped the store would open in time for Christmas in 2016, but the weather slowed the process down and extended the build time.
Patel owns more than 40 franchise stores from Addison to Joliet to Plano. Patel’s father acquired his first store in 1988 in Naperville.
“The process of bringing Dunkin’ Donuts to Sugar Grove was a great testament to their perseverance,” said community development director Walter Magdziarz.
Originally, the Dunkin’ Donuts store was going to be a vertical building, but the village helped Patel develop the design of the building into a longer version. There are many different aspects of the Sugar Grove Dunkin’ Donuts that stand out as special features compared to the 40 other franchise stores Patel owns.
Patel describes the interior of the Sugar Grove Dunkin’ Donuts as a deluxe version of the "Dark Roast" interior. The Dark Roast interior displays dark earth-toned colored chairs and booths along with graphic images on the walls with similar colors as the chairs in the store.
“From day one, it was a night-and-day difference with Sugar Grove,” Patel said. “Sugar Grove wanted Dunkin’ in town, and this isn’t always the case with different cities. The leadership in Sugar Grove is excellent. When we were experiencing hiccup after hiccup that was out of their control, they were there to help us with each step.”
