GENEVA – PB Kitchen Design in Geneva is introducing intern Michelle French from the interior design program at College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn to its team this summer, the company announced in a news release.

With all her children in school, French decided to use her graphic design background to evolve with the rise of the digital world, the release stated.

“Although I have spent my career in graphic design, I have applied my design skills to everything from landscape design to interior design over the years,” French stated in the release. “Once the traditional craft of print design started evolving to the digital world, I knew it was time for me to make a change.”

French enrolled in the interior design program to master the technical aspects that go into planning, designing, and building commercial and residential spaces, the release stated.

“I've been familiar with PB Kitchen Design for years. I knew they designed high quality kitchens with diverse design styles that were executed flawlessly,” French stated in the release. “When I heard they were looking for a summer intern, I jumped at the chance to learn from such a talented group.”

No stranger to partnering with both established and budding talent, PB Kitchen Design, at 200 S. Third St., was always supportive in bringing in student to be interns from COD, the release stated.

PB Kitchen Design’s own senior designer, Debbie Larson, is herself a graduate of the COD program. Since her graduation more than 20 years ago, Larson has become a multiple award-winning designer, the release stated.

When adults – particularly women – become interns, it launches them back into the workforce, a phenomena that has been called “returnships,” the release stated.

These “returnships” for higher-level professionals can act as a bridge for women to return to senior professional roles when they have had extended breaks in their careers, the release stated.

The extended career breaks could be anything from raising their own children to caring for elderly parents, the release stated.
