Crystal Lake man suspected of theft in Kane County; charges pending

CRYSTAL LAKE – A Crystal Lake man suspected of theft was arrested following a single-vehicle rollover crash on Route 72, not long after leading police on a short-lived chase, according to a news release from the DeKalb County Sheriff's Department.

Police said Roland D. Gastfield, 20, of Crystal Lake, was suspected of theft in Kane County and was driving a black 2013 Chevy Camaro that was reported stolen from an Elgin car dealership, stated the release.

The DeKalb County Sheriff's Department was told at noon July 14 that a black Chevy Camaro had fled from a Kane County Sheriff's Office deputy and was heading westbound into DeKalb County, the release said. The Kane County deputy ended the chase for public safety.

Shortly after, the DeKalb County Sheriff's Department responded to a single-vehicle rollover crash on Route 72, west of New Lebanon Road, the release said.

A male, later identified as Gastfield, was treated for non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Presence Saint Joseph Hospital in Elgin under Kane County Sheriff's Office guard, the release said.

The Kane County Sheriff's Office and Hampshire Fire Department responded to the scene prior to the arrival of a DeKalb County deputy.

Charges against Gastfield are pending, according to the release.
