(Island Park in Geneva continues to be closed due to high flood waters from the Fox River on July 20.)
The Fox River at Montgomery was measured at 14.01 feet at 6:45 a.m. July 22, with the water
anticipated to rise to 14.4 feet by the morning of July 23. Flood stage is 13 feet.
The St. Charles Public Works Department closed the Illinois Bridge over the Fox River on July 22, along
with the pedestrian bridge at Indiana Street. The bridges are anticipated to be closed until sometime mid-
next week, according to the city.
“Our Public Works Department has been monitoring the rising level of the Fox River all week,” said City
Administrator Mark Koenen in a news release. “After the overnight storms, conditions called for closing
these two structures for the safety of drivers and pedestrians. We continue to monitor the situation and
will reopen the structures as soon as conditions safely allow it.”
Traffic from the Illinois Bridge will be diverted to both the Prairie Street Bridge and Main Street Bridge
while the closure remains in effect. Traffic on the west side of the Illinois Bridge at First Street will still be
able to access the Fox Island Square parking lot and the Susan L. Klinkhamer Parking Deck across the
street, stated the release.
The current river forecast calls for the Fox River to crest at the Algonquin tailwater early July 23 morning.
A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 10 a.m., is predicted by the weather
service for July 22. It will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 87.
