GENEVA – The Fox Valley Folk Music and Storytelling Festival, which had been scheduled for Sept. 3 and 4 at Geneva Park District’s Island Park, has been canceled due to flood damage, officials announced in a press release.
This is the second time in 40 years the annual festival has been canceled, the release stated.
The flood damage will require total reseeding of nearly two-thirds of Island Park, and that would have forced the festival to downsize from eight stages to three or four stages clustered at the far north end of the island and in the center, the release stated.
This would have forced the festival’s organizers to eliminate most of the showcase work just to get featured artists minimal stage time, the release stated.
Even though the Geneva Park District would have been willing to support a reduced size festival, the folk festival staff agreed that there was not a viable way to do it, the release stated.
Relocation was considered, but festival organizers determined it was possible on short notice, the release stated.
