GENEVA – The Geneva Fire Department responded Sunday morning to Fox Valley Ice Arena, 1996 S. Kirk Road, Geneva, officials confirmed.

No one was injured due to the fire, according to a city of Geneva news release.

The call went out at 6:26 a.m. and became a Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) first-level box alarm for additional resources due to the size and occupancy of the building.

Batavia, St. Charles, Elburn, West Chicago, Fermilab, South Elgin, Elgin, Wheaton, Bartlett, and North Aurora fire departments assisted the Geneva Fire Department at the scene. During the call, the Winfield, Fox River and Sugar Grove fire departments provided back up at Geneva fire stations. The Kane County Sheriff's Office and the Fox Valley Ice Arena Operations staff provided additional support, according to the release.

Heavy black smoke was reported to be coming from the roof on the west side of the building. An interior attack by firefighters brought the fire under control in roughly 40 minutes, according to the release.

The fire was kept in check by the building's sprinkler system and was contained to the refrigerator compressor room, according to the release.

The building resumed partial operations as of Sunday with a return to full operations expected later Sunday, according to the release. Damage estimates are currently being compiled.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, according to the release.
