Special Olympics Illinois to host 26th annual Pumpkin Pedal

MAPLE PARK – Special Olympics Illinois will host the 26th annual Pumpkin Pedal bike ride Oct. 1 at the Sycamore Speedway, 50W086 Route 64, Maple Park.

Recreational riders and families will have their choice of 10-, 20- and 26-mile trail rides entirely on the Great Western Trail, according to a news release.

The event begins at 7:30 a.m.  Event organizers ask that participants bring a bike and a helmet.

Riders will find rest stops with snacks, emergency mechanical support and a post-ride meal, with a vegetarian option, at Sycamore Speedway from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Attendance to the event costs $30. Participants will receive a T-shirt, small pumpkin and a post-ride meal.

Funds raised will benefit 2,000 Special Olympics athletes in the Far West Suburban/Area 2. Entry into the event supports the year-round training of Illinois Special Olympics athletes, according to the release.

Those interested in attending can register online at www.soill.org/event/pumpkin-pedal/?instance_id=6205.
