Pixies come to Geneva’s Third Street

GENEVA – The pixies are out on Third Street in Geneva – but don’t be looking for fairies, candies or a rock band.

Pixies on Main opened July 22 in the Berry House at 227 S. Third St., offering an eclectic selection of just about everything, owner Xochitl Garza of Batavia said.

She is used to people stumbling on her first name; Xochitl is pronounced “so she’ll,” Garza said.

“We were originally located in Sandwich on Main Street in 2014,” Garza said. “And the name pixies came about because I thought pixies are cute and pleasant and happy. I thought, what better than to call a store Pixies?”

Her 1,000-square-foot store in Geneva has eight vendors, including herself, selling antiques, jewelry, clothing, purses, accessories, new furniture, home decor, signs and soaps, she said.

“It’s a little bit of everything,” Garza said. “I like shopping with friends, but sometimes they like a certain product or store and I get bored easily. I wanted to build a store where if you come in with your husband, there’s a men’s section. If you’re shopping with your girlfriend and you’re not into antiques, you can still pick up something for your granddaughter or yourself.”

Pixies on Main developed a devoted clientele, Garza said, with repeat buyers driving out from Chicago and Schaumburg, so she decided not to change the name when she came to Geneva.

And so far, her loyal customers have followed her to Third Street, Garza said.

Geneva’s downtown is where Garza has had her eye for a long time.

“We wanted something closer and the goal was to be in Geneva,” Garza said. “We love downtown Geneva. It’s close to home. It’s one of my favorite places since I was in my teens and early 20s to shop and walk there. And some 20 years later, my dream came true.”

She has another business, Garza Tax and Accounting Service, that she operates out of her home.

“You can only do tax accounting for so many years,” Garza said. “I wanted to venture out of it.”
