Geneva answered with an impressive eight-play drive, which featured three straight completions to Hanson of 19, 14 and 10 yards to takethe ball down to the 6-yard line with less than 10 seconds remaining.
“Coach put together a really good game play and I thought we executed it,” Hanson said. “We stepped up our game, but they made a few more plays than us.”
Murray connected with Krieger for the final play of the game, but he couldn’t get into the end zone or out of bounds as time expired.
“I’m so proud of my guys,” Wicinski said. “I kept saying you’ve got it in you. If this little bit of fight would have been in the third or fourth week of the season (maybe things would be different), but we hadn’t gotten our act together yet.”
