Soft lockdown at St. Charles North lifted after reported burglary in the area, gun shot

ST. CHARLES – A soft lockdown at St. Charles North High School has been lifted this afternoon amidst reports of a burglary in the 3600 block of Grandview Court and a victim with a gunshot wound, according to officials.

About 2:30 p.m. the St. Charles Police Department notified District 303 that a burglary had taken place west of St. Charles North, located at 255 Red Gate Road, and the suspect was at large.

St. Charles Police Deputy Chief Dave Kintz confirmed there was a report of at least one gun shot in the area. There was a large police presence west of the school as of 3 p.m. Thursday.

"Police investigating residential burglary in the 3600 block of Grandview Ct.," stated a tweet from the City of St. Charles Twitter account. "Report of one victim with a gunshot wound."

Another City of St. Charles tweet confirmed the soft lockdown at North was lifted: "St. Charles School District has been given all clear. Delayed buses are leaving and the lock down at St. Charles North HS is lifted."

Bus dismissal of students at both Ferson Creek and Wild Rose elementary schools had been affected by the incident.

Adam Carey, a contractor working a nearby home in the area, said he heard a loud noise while he was working.

"I was working away, making a lot of noise, and I heard a loud sound that could have been a gun shot," he said.
