ST. CHARLES – Kimmer's Ice Cream Chief Operating Officer Isaac Yates hopes his customers leave the shop with a smile on their face.
"It's tough to be upset in an ice cream shop," said Yates, who operates Kimmer's Ice Cream with his wife, Kimberly Yates, who is the namesake for its locations in St. Charles and Wheaton. "If you're having a bad day, we hope that the ice cream and the experience in itself will help turn that around. That's really what we're aiming for."
In addition to homemade ice cream, the store also sells ice cream cakes, pies and cookie sandwiches. Kimmer's ice cream is sold in area restaurants and grocery stores, including Casey's Foods in Naperville and Blue Goose Market in downtown St. Charles, across the street from the original Kimmer's.
It all started when Kimberly (Elam) Yates, who grew up in Batavia, bought the former Gramp's Frozen Custard in St. Charles in October 2010, prior to the couple getting married.
"Her best friend married my best friend, and we met at their wedding," Isaac Yates said.
