ST. CHARLES – After considering a Republican primary run for the post of Illinois attorney general, Kane County State's Attorney Joe McMahon announced Nov. 1 he will not seek the office.
“For the past several months, I have explored the idea of running for attorney general of Illinois," McMahon said in a statement. "I have decided that now is not the time for me to seek other public office and have decided to throw my full support behind [Urbana attorney] Erika Harold … ."
The state race is wide open following the unexpected September announcement by Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan, a Democrat, that she will not run for reelection.
"Thank you for the freedom to explore a possible run for attorney general and the support that so many across the state of Illinois have expressed," McMahon stated. "I have an incredible job; one that I am thankful for and I intend to fulfill my commitment to the people of Kane County … ."
