Batavia Fire Department raises money for Muscular Dystrophy Association

BATAVIA – Expressing gratitude to community members for their support, the Batavia Fire Department announced its Fill the Boot campaign raised almost $9,400 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

The MDA campaign is a fundraising tradition that began in 1952, and has grown into a national program conducted by firefighters across the country, raising a total of nearly $530 million, according to a news release.

Batavia firefighters invited motorists to share spare change and other contributions by dropping them into firefighters' boots. Wearing their helmets and fire department safety vests for easy identification, they volunteered their efforts for three consecutive Friday afternoons at the corners of East Wilson and Prairie streets.
