Schutta, Burlington Central take second at tournament

Zach Schutta scored 23 points and Patrick Mayfield added 17 for Burlington Central, which lost to South Elgin 64-56 on Nov. 25 in the championship game of the Strombom Holiday Tournament in Sycamore.

Vince Miszkiewicz scored 19 points for South Elgin, which denied Burlington Central (3-1) its third straight tournament championship.

Schutta scored 21 points and Mayfield added 14 for the Rockets in a 65-41 win over Rochelle in the semifinals of the tournament on Nov. 24. Michael Kalusa added nine points for the Rockets.

Mayfield scored 21 points, Caden Scott added nine and Jake Lenschow had eight for Burlington Central in a 59-51 win over Genoa-Kingston on Nov. 22.

Kalusa made six of Burlington Central’s 13 3-pointers and scored 22 points, and Schutta had 23 points for the Rockets in a 78-53 win over Dundee-Crown on Nov. 21.

Kaneland

Blake Feiza scored 12 points for the Knights (1-3), who beat Chicago Marine 65-42 at Batavia’s Windmill Classic on Nov. 25.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Burlington Central

Elana Wells hit a tying 3-pointer as time expired in regulation to force overtime and the Rockets beat McHenry 58-54 on Nov. 21 to win the Burlington Central Thanksgiving Classic for the fifth straight year.

Kathryn Schmidt scored 25 points for Burlington Central (5-0), including a 3-pointer preceding Wells’ trey in regulation. Wells had 14 points.

Burlington Central also beat Belvidere North 50-33 at the tournament behind 16 points from Schmidt and 10 from Wells.

Kaneland

The Knights beat Belvidere 43-30 on Nov. 21 to win the Wauconda Tournament. Jamie Martens and Jenni Weber were both named to the All-Tournament team.
