ST. CHARLES – The Krausz Companies Inc., owner of the Charlestowne Mall in St. Charles, has announced it is closing the interior shops and enclosed mall space at the center on Dec. 1.
Mall anchors Von Maur, Carson’s and Classic Cinemas will remain open. Entrance to these businesses will be accessed directly from the outside doors only. Access roads and parking lots will remain open as usual.
Cooper’s Hawk, Starbucks and the newly opened Verizon store are not affected by the enclosed mall closure, according to a news release from The Krausz Companies.
The concept plan presented to the St. Charles City Council on May 8 included keeping portions of the mall building but significantly reducing its size, stated the release.
Chuck May, project manager for The Krausz Companies, said an enclosed mall is no longer viable at the location. It continues to work on the residential/retail/commercial redevelopment of the site with co-developers and the city of St. Charles.
