ST. CHARLES – A dual career as restaurateur and musician promises to be a winning combination for a Sycamore resident, who – with a team – has opened a new dining destination in downtown St. Charles. Perched on the Fox River, Eden on the River launched a month ago.
Open for dinner six days a week with world music bands ranging from Gypsy jazz to flamenco on the weekends, Eden on the River offers an eastern-Mediterranean menu focusing on cuisines from Turkey, Lebanon, Syria and Greece.
It was about a decade ago that Omar Musfi, who teaches Middle Eastern percussion at Northern Illinois University, started his first restaurant with his wife in DeKalb, while still pursuing his graduate degree at NIU.
He said the St. Charles location with its river-view tables, expansive patio and space for private parties is larger than his former location.
Among his favorite dishes on the menu is the whole baked fish. In the pursuit of freshness, the kind of fish, which is never frozen, will vary. He said the fish is marinated in a hearty sauce containing spices, lemon, olive oil, cilantro, parsley, tomatoes and garlic.
