Nina Cater, who owns the business with her sister, Michelle Adams, said they always tried to accommodate customers who placed orders for weddings and catered events.
“Now we have a couple people on staff, and we can do it on a more consistent basis,” Cater said. “We have one company vehicle that will be customized next year.”
Since September, The Sugar Path began offering local delivery, primarily in Batavia, Geneva and St. Charles, for more than just large events, Cater said.
“We are open Tuesday through Saturday. Tuesday through Thursday, we’ll have a couple of deliveries. But Friday and Saturday, people have a lot of events and parties at home,” Cater said. “People are running around and life is busy, and they don’t have time to pick it up."
So on some Saturdays, the bakery can have as many as 20 deliveries, she said.
“Saturdays are the day,” Cater said. “It’s pretty hopping around here.”
The bakery charges $5 to deliver, but the fee will increase the farther away it is, Cater said. Delivery to Elburn, for example, costs $25.
The bakery prefers a day’s notice that a delivery is being scheduled, and sometimes cannot help last-minute requests, Cater said.
But The Sugar Path will try to accomplish same-day delivery if the drop-off is not far from other scheduled deliveries.
“We got called today [Friday] to take six cupcakes to a friend having a rough time,” Cater said. “That was same-day delivery. The delivery person on staff was able to cruise the cupcakes to the friend in need.”
The types of delivery requests vary, Cater said.
“We’ve made many deliveries to Delnor,” Cater said. “People want cupcakes delivered to a mom with a new baby, with pink or blue frosting.”
