Batavia director to discuss new film at Waterline Writers

BATAVIA – Waterline Writers will present a partial screening of the newly released feature film titled "Pottersville" accompanied by conversation with its director, Seth Henrikson of Batavia, at 7 p.m. Dec. 17 at Water Street Studios, 160 S. Water St., Batavia.

Food, dessert, wine and beer will be available. Admission will be free, with donations welcomed for the Batavia Interfaith Food Pantry.

"Seth will be rushing back from the movie's Dec. 15 L.A. premiere for our own Batavia premiere and we're excited to deviate from our regular programming to bring you this unique event," Waterline Writers announced in a news release.

Henrikson turned his friend Dan Meyer’s script into a movie.

As its title implies, the story is not in Bedford Falls anymore. Starring Michael Shannon, Ron Perlman, Judy Greer, Tom Lennon, Christina Hendricks and Ian McShane, "Pottersville" pays homage to "It’s A Wonderful Life" even as it careens into modern-day scenarios Frank Capra could never have imagined, capturing the craziness of the present and reflecting the best of the past, according to the release.

The full film is available on Amazon or Netflix. It’s described as a warm and fun-filled movie to watch with family and friends during the holidays.

A variety of gift items will be offered at the Waterline Writers event, and people can meet the owners of a new book store in Batavia.

Because of the special program, there will be no open mic. The building elevator is now in operation. To learn more or have submissions considered in 2018, email waterlinewriters@gmail.com or visit waterlinewriters.org. If planning to attend the Dec. 17 event, one is asked to RSVP on Facebook.
