GENEVA – After eight years at 113 W. State St., Geneva, El Molcajete closed that location to concentrate on its restaurant on the second floor of the Berry House, 227 S. Third St., Geneva.

“We sold that location about a month ago,” co-owner Isaias Gomez said of its now former State Street restaurant. “All the customers from that [State Street] location were coming to our location on Third Street so we decided not to pay double rent. … It was working out well.”

The restaurant has had its Berry House location for four years.

Gomez said they are especially busy on the weekends when customers will wait half an hour to be seated.

Called the restaurant El Molcajete on 3rd, it features a larger dining room with 45 tables, Gomez said.

The Berry House location also can accommodate a party of 40, Gomez said – something the smaller State Street restaurant could not do.

“We have an extra room here [on Third Street] that we used for private events,” Gomez said. “We added 12 tables to that room, and we are planning to make it upscale. We are working on a special menu for it.”

Gomez said the room will be called the Tequila Room and will feature exotic flavors for margaritas.

Another new Mexican restaurant called Taco Madre will be opening in the 113 W. State St. location.
