No charges to be filed in fatal Geneva crash

GENEVA – No charges will be filed in a fatal car crash that killed one person and injured another at 1:18 a.m. Jan. 7 in the 1400 block of West State Street in Geneva, police announced in a news release.
Adam L. Bruner, 28, of the 300 block of Augusta Avenue, DeKalb, was driving a 2000 Honda Accord westbound on West State Street when he allegedly failed to maneuver a curve in the roadway, according to police evidence and witness statements, the release stated.
The crash occurred when Bruner’s vehicle entered the eastbound lane of traffic and struck a 2013 Volkswagon Passat driven by an 18-year-old Geneva man, the police release stated.
Any determination of drugs or alcohol as a contributing factor in the crash will be made by the Kane County Coroner’s Office following the autopsy, the release stated.
Both men were transported by the Geneva Fire Department to Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital in Geneva, where Bruner was later pronounced dead, the release stated.
According to a news release from the coroner's office, preliminary autopsy results from Jan. 8 show that Bruner died of multiple injuries as a result of the car accident. Toxicology samples were sent to the forensic laboratory for analysis, the release stated.
The Geneva man has been treated and released from the hospital, the release stated.
The Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team, in conjunction with Geneva police, is investigating the incident, the release stated.
