The Town and Country Public Library kicks off 2018 with several returning programs, including Family Minecraft Night.
The Town and Country Public Library kicks off 2018 with several returning programs, including Family Minecraft Night.

Start your new year off right by attending some favorite returning programs at the Town and Country Public Library. While the year may still be new, the library has scheduled slew of popular programs to welcome patrons back. Creative, fun and helpful programs await patrons of all ages during the first two months of 2018.

Back by popular demand, tech expert Nate Gass is returning to the library at 1:30 p.m. Jan. 21 to discuss the many alternatives to cable television. Dropping an expensive cable television subscription is now a viable option, thanks to alternatives like Roku, Apple TV, Netflix and other services. Nate will help weigh the options and explore the many available cable television substitutes on the market today.

Returning from the digital realm, Family Minecraft Night is back at the library at 6 p.m. Feb. 9. Minecraft fans of all ages and skill levels are invited to take part in Minecraft gaming and crafting challenges throughout the evening. Tasty snacks and beverages will also be provided by the library to keep the Minecraft festivities going throughout the evening.

The library is celebrating special father-figures with Dads and Donuts at 10 a.m. Feb. 10. Father-figures, like dads, grandfathers and uncles, are welcome to a morning feast of donuts, coffee and juice while crafts and activities will be provided for children. Sign up and stop by to chat with other dads, enjoy some delicious treats and keep the kids entertained with library-provided fun.

Crafters aged three to 18 can come to the library for a lovely pre-Valentine’s Day crafting session at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 13. A wide selection of crafting supplies and decorations will be available to create thoughtful gifts. Children and young adults will be able to construct handmade, heartfelt presents to give to loved ones the following day.

Finding the right college to attend is a daunting task and considering how to pay for college is an even more daunting task. Fortunately for prospective college students, the library is hosting a special seminar to help with these difficult college decisions at 7 p.m. Feb. 13. Experienced professionals from My College Planning Team will cover helpful college search strategies and discuss steps to reducing college costs during this program.

Connor Wilcox is the communications coordinator for the Town and Country Public Library. The “Word from Elburn” column runs the third Thursday of each month. Feedback can be sent to editorial@kcchronicle.com.
