BATAVIA – Bulldogs Unleashed, partnering with Batavia MainStreet and the Batavia Chamber of Commerce, will make a limited number of foster dogs available to Batavia businesses to display this spring and summer.

The four-month campaign focuses on tabletop, 17-inch bulldog statues to be displayed at participating businesses, according to a news release. The locations also will be where the public can buy raffle tickets for a chance to be the forever owner of the one-of-a-kind, hand-painted canines.

“We are very excited to welcome the bulldogs back to downtown Batavia in 2018,” Jamie Saam, executive director of Batavia MainStreet, wrote in the release. “The addition of the foster dogs in some of our downtown businesses will give MainStreet and the Chamber a great opportunity to assist with the program as well as get people moving around town. We love that we can tie in with this already successful promotion and help to raise funds for three Batavia community nonprofits.”

The fee to foster is $250, with proceeds benefiting the Batavia Foundation for Educational Excellence serving the city’s public schools, Batavia Public Library Foundation and Batavia Parks Foundation. For details, visit bulldogsunleashed.org or email Britta McKenna at brittawmckenna@gmail.com.

The deadline to apply to be a foster business is March 1 or when all suitable homes have been secured. Batavia businesses must be able to offer in-store promotions to qualify as a foster location.

Participating businesses will be announced on National Pet Day on April 11 with special promotions held at each location until the Bulldogs Unleashed auction in September. Dogs will be delivered to each foster business on or before May 1 and picked up after Labor Day to be raffled off at the auction event.

Puppy adoption

In a related project, Feb. 15 is the deadline to order a more petite white, crimson, black or gold souvenir-size bulldog puppy statue at bulldogsunleashed.org for $75, the release stated.

And Windmill City Fest in July invites all puppy sculpture owners to decorate or paint their Bulldogs Unleashed pups and enter them in a Parade of Puppies. They will be displayed during the festival and are eligible for best of show honors in youth and adult categories.

Among a full lineup of Bulldogs Unleashed events will be the Bulldog Jog 3K on April 26 open to people and their dogs at West Main Park. The first 50 people with dogs to register will receive a special gift, with more information available from the Batavia Park District at bataviaparks.org.
