GENEVA – Geneva aldermen approved a $6,400 change order Jan. 16 for pressure rings and gauges for a capital project to replace primary pumps and valves in the wastewater treatment plan.
Aldermen had already approved a $90,350 contract with AMS Mechanical for the replacement of two primary sludge pumps and eight inline valves at the water treatment plant.
The original bid specifications did not include inlet and discharge pressure rings and gauges, officials said.
The pressure rings have a safety switch, which prevents the pump from damaging itself or any other equipment located downstream of the pump, officials said.
The contractor and staff noticed later, upon evaluating the new pump installation, that the pressure rings and switches also needed to be replaced, as they are from 1972 and can no longer be serviced, officials said.
