The Batavia Public Library plans special events to celebrate its sweet 16 milestone.
The Batavia Public Library plans special events to celebrate its sweet 16 milestone.

BATAVIA – The Batavia Public Library will throw a sweet 16 party in honor of its building with festivities planned from 1 to 4 p.m. Jan. 28 at 10 S. Batavia Ave., Batavia.

Visitors can enjoy refreshments, library trivia, a DVD screening showing the building’s gala dedication in 2002, and a pictorial display of library highlights from the past 16 years, according to a news release.

A musical performance titled "Fiesta" will be presented at 2 p.m. by Jan and Gino of the Soundz of Time. Registration is required for the “Fiesta” program at www.bataviapubliclibrary.org or by calling the reference desk at 630-879-1393, ext. 200.

During the celebration, children can do a craft and receive free birthday tattoos that are washable. And because the building is turning 16, anyone who is 16 years old on Jan. 28 can enter a free drawing for a Chipotle gift card, the release stated. Teens can enter by bringing proof of age, such as a driver’s license or library card, to the library reference desk between now and 3:45 p.m. Jan. 28. At 4 p.m. that day, the drawing will take place.

The library building was dedicated Jan. 27, 2002, drawing more than 6,000 people to the dedication, the release stated. It opened for business the following day.
