Imagine my surprise, as my family and I were walking along the National Mall in Washington D.C., when I saw former Sugar Grove resident Greg Zanis and his Crosses for Losses crew Jan. 20 as they gathered the more than 2,000 crosses they brought to signify victims of gun violence.
We recently did a story about the new truck and trailer gifted to Greg and his nonprofit organization. For that story, I was able to visit Greg in his workshop garage in Aurora.
I visit Washington D.C. quite often to visit my sister, who lives in a Virginia suburb.
That's why I was there this time, too, and we were taking advantage of the unseasonably warm weather to see some of the monuments and war memorials.
I love small world stories and seeing Greg, and him realizing that I was the one who had been in his garage taking photos not too long ago, is a great one that I'll probably tell for years to come.
He even asked me if I needed a ride home.
