BATAVIA – Big shows in February and March have been announced in the Live Art Series at Water Street Studios in Batavia. A call also has gone out inviting performing artists to showcase their talents in coming months.
Six stand-up comedians will team up for a show at 7 p.m. Feb. 23, presented by comedian and former Water Street Studios resident artist Darius Hurley, who has been performing comedy in the Chicago area for the past four years, according to a news release. He will be joined by Stuart Swanson, Katie Meiners, Scott Galvin, KB Marion and Timmy Blaze for a mix of established and up-and-coming comedy acts.
"The Art of Comedy" is recommended for ages 17 and older, and seating is limited to 70. At 6 p.m., doors open and cocktail hour begins. Tickets cost $5 in advance at http://shawurl.com/3828 or $10 at the door. An informal question-and-answer session will follow. The bar will offer beer, wine and cocktails.
All ticket sales go to support the continuation of arts programming at Water Street Studios, a nonprofit art center.
Looking ahead, “Daughters of Ire," a one-woman show, will be performed by Savanna Rae on March 23. Critics have called her "a mesmerizing dynamo."
The monthly Live Art Series explores a variety of art forms including music, film, dance and storytelling. The call for artists stated that each show earns a $250 performance stipend provided by Water Street Studios thanks to a grant from the Batavia Arts Council. And performance evenings run from 6 to 9 p.m. on the fourth Friday in the Dempsey Family Gallery, which is wheelchair accessible.
People interested in performing in the series may apply online at waterstreetstudios.org/live-art-series-application.
