Roger T. Harris, a member of the Waubonsee Community College Board of Trustees, resigned as of Jan. 31.

SUGAR GROVE – The Waubonsee Community College Board of Trustees accepted the resignation of Roger T. Harris from the board at its previously scheduled special meeting Jan. 31.

Harris was seated on the Board of Trustees in April 2017, according to a news release from Waubonsee Community College.

Before that, he served on the Waubonsee Community College Foundation Board since September 2011. Harris, currently of Geneva, has begun the process of becoming a Florida resident. Because he will not reside within the college’s district, he will no longer be eligible to serve on the board.

Harris has been the owner, president and CEO of Producers Chemical Company in Sugar Grove, the release stated. He also has served as a member and chairman of the National Association of Chemical Distributors, the president of the NACD Central Region and the chairman of the Government Affairs Committee for the NACD.

Harris has demonstrated his strong commitment to the community by serving on several civic boards in addition to the Waubonsee Board of Trustees, the release stated. He has served as a board member for Delnor Community Health System, Cadence Health System and Northwestern Health System, as well as on the Northwestern Memorial West Region Board of Directors. He also served as a member and president of the Geneva Lions Club and the Batavia Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.

In accordance with Illinois law, the board will appoint a trustee to fill the vacant seat within 60 days, the release stated. The board will appoint a trustee to fill the vacant seat from March 21, 2018, until the next consolidated election on Tuesday, April 2, 2019, according to a separate release.

A candidate must be a citizen of the United States, of the age of 18 years or over and a resident for at least one year immediately preceding the appointment of the state and the territory which, on the date of the appointment, is included in the community college district.

Anyone interested in being considered for the appointment should send a cover letter explaining their interest in serving as a trustee and a résumé by 4:30 p.m. Feb. 15.

Letters and résumés may be submitted electronically or in hard copy to: Mary Baccheschi, Clerk of the Board, Waubonsee Community College, Route 47 at Waubonsee Drive, Sugar Grove, IL 60554, mbaccheschi@waubonsee.edu; fax 630-466-7550.

For questions about this appointment, contact Christine Sobek, president of Waubonsee Community College, at 630-466-2300 or csobek@waubonsee.edu.

It is expected that a trustee will be appointed and seated at the regularly scheduled March 21 board of trustees meeting, the release stated.
