A winter storm watch has been issued for Feb. 8 and 9 in Kane and surrounding counties, with between 6 and 10 inches of snow possible.

The National Weather Service today issued a winter storm watch in effect from Thursday evening through 6 p.m. Friday.

The alert stated that heavy snow is possible, and people should plan on difficult travel
conditions, including during the morning commute Friday. Total snow accumulations of 6 to 10 inches are possible. The NWS also warns there may be significant reductions in visibility, as well as the chance of sleet or ice accumulation.

In addition to Kane, the counties anticipated to be affected include Boone, DeKalb, Grundy, Kendall, LaSalle, Lee, McHenry, Ogle and Winnebago.
