What would following in his brothers’ footsteps mean to Jimenez?
“It would mean the world to me,” Jimenez said. “Sitting in the stands watching them, I always aspired to be like them. I’ve wanted to achieve that [championship]."
Jimenez’s final prep season has not been without pain. He missed a month with a knee injury but said that will not hold him back.
“It’s a minor setback,” Jimenez said. “My gas tank broke down a little bit but during the time I wasn’t injured I was working on that hard.
“Coach [Donald Reynolds] harped on me to get on the bike, get on the sprints, whatever I could do. It’s paying off.
“I’m not where I want to be right now because of the setback, but I’m close. I can really feel it. My confidence is there.”
