Batavia Business Beat: The door is always open at the Batavia Chamber of Commerce

Chamber staff is willing to listen

Here at the Batavia Chamber of Commerce we have an open door policy. Having this mindset gives us the opportunity to meet a lot of new and interesting people.

As a matter of fact, today we had someone call who wanted to know if we had a copy of a local publication that highlighted his neighbors. At that point we did not, but after a few calls, we had several copies in hand within an hour. When our visitor stopped by, we engaged in a very lively conversation about different happenings in Batavia, great breakfast restaurants, the business he runs and people we all knew in common.

This is a perfect example of networking, which happened organically. Not only did we learn a new great place for breakfast (can’t tell you because they aren’t a chamber member …yet), but we maybe found a potential summer job for my son in college and probably have a new chamber member.

What also was so great about the conversation was his positivity about our wonderful town. He talked about how he enjoys driving east down Wilson Street and loves looking at our cityscape and the buildings. Our conversation then turned to Pal Joey’s and the fact that they are relocating to the old Golden Corral location. He couldn’t say enough about how excited he was about the convenience of that location and the ample parking.

We hear a lot of opinions from so many people. Some positive, some negative, some valid and some not so much. … One thing is interesting: We will get compliments for things we haven’t done and we will get chastised for things we have no control over. That’s the beauty of being a sounding board, listening patiently and hopefully giving assistance when we are able.

If you find yourself walking through downtown Batavia and feel like stopping in, we would love to see you. We have a lot of information to share about our members, upcoming events and just fun stories about Batavia. Please also remember to shop local and shop often.
