Instructional Coach Anne Olsen explained how students in kindergarten through fifth grade have had the opportunity to explore their interests through the Curiosity Squad at Blackberry Creek Elementary School.
“We break into squads and students are matched up with teachers who share a similar interest,” Olsen said. “Every six weeks, we go to the Curiosity Squad. There are 25 Curiosity Squads. We have Curiosity Squads for technology, science, acting, baseball, football, art, baking, the military and more. We have guest speakers and career groups come in to talk to the kids. Our acting group will get to perform. The kids decide what they want to do.”
Kaneland John Stewart Elementary fourth- and fifth-grade STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) teacher Lori Doll shared an example of how an instructional coach helped in one of her classes and shared a different way to learn.
