[Cristian Girolamo, 18, is surrounded by friends and family outside his Sugar Grove home, where he was surprised with a dream garage filled with new tools from Make-A-Wish Illinois and Snap-on Inc.]
His mom, Lucy Girolamo, wasn’t always sure that his passion would lead him into the garage, but she saw some inklings since he used to follow around her late father who also was a motorhead.
“My dad used to always be tinkering around with something and Cristian was always watching him,” she said. “When he got older he gave Cristian some of his tools and his magazines and books, and even though they were in Spanish, he told him you can learn from the pictures. When he passed away my mom gave Cristian all of his tools.”
During the presentation, which was in front of friends, family, well-wishers and representatives from Make-A-Wish and Snap-on, Cristian Girolamo said he felt like his grandfather was with him.
