Culver’s aims for summer opening in St. Charles

New franchise location to open on Randall Road

ST. CHARLES – Joining a strip on Randall Road with the likes of Burger King, Wendy’s, Skippy’s Gyros and more, Culver’s is coming to the west side of St. Charles in hopes of standing out among the competition.

According to Culver’s franchise owner Jim Diverde, the new location, which is located at 111 S. Randall Road, St. Charles, has been under construction for about 12 to 18 months and has a predicted opening date of June 16.

“We are right on schedule for that,” he said.

The South Elgin native is no stranger to owning a franchise. In fact, he has worked for Culver’s for 13 years and co-owns other locations with his wife, Judy, and business partner Chuck Martin in Schaumburg, Crystal Lake, Darien, Aurora and Bolingbrook. He said as soon as he became aware of the opportunity to open a Culver’s location on Randall Road, he wanted to secure it.

“We always had our eye on that area, and it was just a really good choice for us,” Diverde said.

Diverde said a big part of making the restaurant a reality has been the cooperation that has been built between him and the city of St. Charles.

“The city was great to work with,” Diverde said. “You have to make concessions on both sides. The city has their rules and regulations. There’s a lot of give and take.”

But the process paid off and now both sides are eager for a new Culver’s. City of St. Charles Director of Community and Economic Development Rita Tungare said another Culver’s is a benefit to St. Charles.

“What’s not to love about Culver’s?” Tungare said. “We have one on the east side so it’s a welcome addition for the west.”

But along with the new location comes some troubles: competition. In a strip with many restaurant options, there’s concern about getting beat by other competitors.

But, Diverde is prepared to put in the effort to standout.

“We always worry about the competition, but we deal with that by doing what we do best and work hard to deliver what people expect of us,” he said.

In order to be ready to open in June, the building has to pass inspections, with a final inspection slated in May.

But, the construction isn’t all that needs to be finished: the store also still needs trained employees. Diverde said he is looking to hire individuals who are ready to join the Culver’s team.
