On the other end, East's Alondra Carranza, who briefly left in the first half due to an apparent injury, barely missed a goal with a header off the North left post. Carranza returned to begin the second half.
"I definitely think East challenged us today," Maleski said. "They really congested the middle because we're really used to playing to feed and finding the spaces, so I think they did a good job of that."
"I thought they outplayed us in the first half," East coach Vince DiNuzzo said. "I thought we had moments in the second half...honestly, it wasn't so much tactical changes, it was more just effort...[we] came out in the second half and responded."
