[2018 Kaneland Hall of Fame Inductee, Dr. Shannon Barber-Meyer (right) gets a congratulatory hug from her Kaneland High School Spanish teacher, Elaine Nelson, on May 7.]
Before the ceremony, Barber-Meyer was greeted at a reception with friends, family and her past teachers from Kaneland. It was a time of smiles, catching up and congratulations and thinking about how Kaneland prepared her for life after high school.
“I really feel like my time in cross country and track built a foundation of character for me that has served me my whole life,” she said. “Also, the classes that you get to take like the foreign language [classes] really helped broaden my worldview and gave me a lifelong interest in travel.”
While looking in the 2018 Hall of Fame inductions booklet, Barber-Meyer’s husband, John Meyer, found a picture of their family along with his wife’s biography and said it demonstrated one of her key characteristics.
